Race Day Performance Clinic: Speed, Efficiency & Water Reading

Friday Afternoon, July 24th | Bay Paddle

Open to V1, OC1 & SUP Athletes

Whether you're racing for a podium spot, trying to beat a friend, or simply looking to have your best race possible, performance on race day comes down to more than fitness.

The fastest paddlers are often not the strongest paddlers.

They're the athletes who understand how to move efficiently, read the water, make good decisions, and apply power at the right time.

This two-hour clinic is designed to help athletes of all paddle disciplines improve race-day performance by focusing on the skills that create free speed.

Topics include:

  • Efficient body and blade mechanics
  • Common technique mistakes that waste energy
  • Boat and board trim
  • Applying power effectively
  • Reading water and identifying opportunities
  • Pacing and race execution
  • Adjusting to wind, waves, current, and changing conditions
  • Buoy turns, positioning, and tactical considerations
  • How to capitalize on bumps and small pieces of energy
  • Race-day preparation and mindset

The first portion of the clinic will be land-based, where we'll break down the principles of efficient paddling, biomechanics, and race strategy.

The second portion will move onto the water where athletes will apply these concepts in real conditions through drills, demonstrations, and individualized feedback.

Whether you paddle a V1, OC1, or SUP, the underlying principles of speed remain the same. Better decisions. Better positioning. Better timing. Better efficiency.

Bring your race craft, your questions, and a willingness to experiment.
You'll leave with practical tools you can immediately apply in Saturday's race.
